CARE is one of the most important animal rights events in Europe, organized by Anima International and Otwarte Klatki. This year’s edition took place in Warsaw from September 12th to 15th, drawing in activists, experts, and animal advocacy organizations from across the globe. I am honored to have been part of this exceptional gathering, capturing its essence through live sketching.

Visual notes: a fresh take on the animal rights dialogue

CARE goes beyond the typical conference format – it’s more than just talks and presentations. This year’s program was packed with panels, workshops, and debates exploring various aspects of animal welfare. Topics ranged from campaigns to end cage farming, innovations in plant-based protein alternatives, to ethical questions surrounding artificial intelligence and its impact on animal well-being.

Given the diversity of subjects covered during these sessions, live visual recording proved to be an ideal way to encapsulate and convey key ideas.

As I sketched live during the conference, I transformed the speakers’ words into vivid images and symbols that were displayed in real time.

This visual documentation was more than just a captivating addition to the presentations. The main goal of live sketching was to enhance the participants’ understanding and retention of the content plus to maintain the focus for longer debates or presentations.

CARE 2024 – an experience that resonates

CARE serves as a vital meeting point for people dedicated to advancing animal rights, fostering collaboration, and developing effective strategies. Being able to take part in such a meaningful event, listening to the voices of passionate activists, and translating their messages into visual form was not just a professional challenge, but a deeply fulfilling experience.
